Review | Will & Grace (Season 2 Episodes 5-8)

It would seem that the studios have finally taken the
hint that many of us
out there actually like watching or favorite TV shows on DVD and at
our own
leisure. What's the attraction for me? No commercials.
Heck, if I wanted
to watch commercials before watching my fav film or show, I'd just go
over to
the local theatre where they have a bad habit of showing them.
While there
was a rumor that "Will & Grace" might actually see a
North American release,
currently the only way to acquire it is on Region 2.
Unfortunately, instead
of being released 8 episodes per disc like Season 1 was, we're now
only
getting 4. What does this mean? It means instead of buying
3 discs for a
complete season, now we're forced to buy 6. STILL not liking
that!
So, let's catch up, shall we? Gay lawyer Will (Eric McCormack,
"Here's To
Life!") and best friend interior designer Grace (Debra Messing,
"Hollywood
Ending") no longer live together, but they do live just across
the hall from
each other. You know, that just solves all of their problems,
right?
Meanwhile, gay best friend Jack (Sean Hayes, "Martin and
Lewis") is still
married to Karen's (Megan Mullally, "Stealing Harvard")
maid, Rosario
(Shelley Morrison, "Fools Rush In") and living in Karen's
huge house. All
caught up? Good.
"Who's Mum Is It Anyway" marks the first appearance of
Debbie Reynolds
("Mother") as Grace's famous Broadway mother.
Unfortunately, mom has a bad habit of disagreeing with everything
Grace does in life and has made it her
personal mission to set her daughter up with eligible
bachelors…until now
anyway. Much to everyone's surprise (not!), Jack and Rosario get
a visit
from Immigration Services because something just doesn't set well with
them.
In "Das Boob", a picture in the newspaper makes Grace's
endowments look much larger than they actually are. When an old
object of her affection calls her up for a date, she relies on Karen
to teach her the tricks of the trade and
also where to find the new hydro-bra. Jack also learns that Will
had
relations with the love of his (Jack's) life.
"To Serve And Disinfect" finds Will out to prove to Jack
that anybody can be
a waiter, but when the clientele turn out to be other lawyers, is it
as easy
to serve the pompous as it first seemed? Much to Karen's dismay,
Grace finds
out that somebody once starred in a naughty, naughty little dominatrix
film.
Embarrassing? Only for one person in particular.
Thanksgiving comes to our
happy little group in "Homo For The Holidays" when Jack's
mother is invited
to the feast. Jack isn't particularly happy, though, especially
since he's
never told his mother that he's gay. Just when you thought the
cat was out
of the bag, mom drops a little secret about Jack's past of her own.
Medusa Pictures has given us a solid Full Frame picture with equally
impressive audio. Best of all, no commercials! Right,
moving along to the
extras we have three more little offerings. The first is a 1 ½
minute block
of dance clips from the show called "Everybody Dance," the
second contains 2
½ minutes of gay references titled "Out and About" while
the third is a 1 ½
of "The Sounds Of Comedy". Yes, they're amusing, but
again not particularly
lengthy.
As I said with the first disc, I honestly don't know what purpose is
served
by spreading an entire season out onto 6 discs when it's been done
before on
3 other than to try and squeeze more money out of consumers. Oh,
well. I
guess I'm naive that way and they must like people like me because I
bought
the first two discs and the next two are being sent as I write this.
Funny
show! Nonsensical marketing.
