DVD Review | Will & Grace (Season 2 Episodes 1-4)
Written by: Kage Alan

I'm finally able to start legitimately getting rid of all the crappy VHS
tapes that I used to record this show in case it never made it past the first
season.  Oh, if you only knew how many sitcoms have aired only a few episodes or just a single season and then were never heard from again.  Well, I was bound and determined not to let this happen and now I don't have to since
they've started coming out on DVD in good ol' reliable Region 2.
Unfortunately, instead of being released 8 episodes per disc like Season 1
was, we're now only getting 4.  What does this mean?  It means instead of
buying 3 discs for a complete season, now we're forced to buy 6.  NOT liking
that!

As last we left our group, gay lawyer Will (Eric McCormack, "Here's To
Life!") and best friend interior designer Grace (Debra Messing, "Hollywood
Ending") have decided to live apart since neither of them have done a decent
job of moving on in life with their own personal romantic relationships.
Meanwhile, gay best friend Jack (Sean Hayes, "Martin and Lewis") is still
married to Karen's (Megan Mullally, "Stealing Harvard") maid, Rosario
(Shelley Morrison, "Fools Rush In").  All caught up?  Good.

"Guess Who's Not Coming To Dinner" finds Grace now living just across the
hall from Will and still driving him crazy.  In an effort to show that she
doesn't need him for every little thing (especially since he accuses her of
just that), she invites mutual friends over to a picnic to celebrate her
independence.  Can anyone smell disaster?  Karen can't because she's toasted.
Jack also moves in with Rosario so that the marriage looks legitimate.  In
"Election," Grace can't get any satisfaction with the President of the Board
of Tenants (Will), so she decides to run against him and his snobby attitude.
Jack also has a bad time when Karen accidentally lets his pet parrot out.

"I Never Promised You An Olive Garden" explores what happens when Will and
Grace decide to ditch their square friends Rob and Ellen to hang out with a
wild and crazy couple who enjoy Dim Sum, all-night parties and rock concerts.
When Karen gets a call to attend a parent/teacher conference, she cons Jack
into going with her.  Could he possibly find a kindred spirit in a place that
holds terrible memories for him?  In "Polk Defeats Truman", Will decides to
drop the majority of his clients in order to take care of his biggest
account, Harlin Polk.  Unfortunately, much to the dismay of Will's ego,
Harlin cuts him loose.  Grace ends up taking it upon herself to help Karen
learn how to curb her spending habits with hilarious results.

Medusa Pictures has given us a solid Full Frame picture with an equally
impressive audio track.  So long VHS and HELLO DVD!  Okay, moving right along to the extras, we're given two little offerings.  The first is a 1 ¼ minute
block of clips from the show called "Fashion Quips" while the second contains
2-minutes of clips titled "With A Song In Our Heart".  Yes, they're amusing,
but not particularly lengthy.  What happened to more interviews?  What
happened to bloopers?  I was left a bit disappointed here.

I honestly don't know what purpose is served by spreading an entire season
out onto 6 discs when it's been done before on 3 other than to try and
squeeze more money out of consumers.  Unfortunately, it's working because I'm spending the money, but only because I can't buy it in North America.  That complaint aside, it's a great show, extremely funny and definitely worth
collecting.
