Review | Tuck & Patti: A Gift Of Love Written by: Kage

Album
Rating: A-
I’ve been called almost every name in the book
(just take a look at the feedback I received for Darren Hayes’ debut
solo album…which is nothing compared to what we couldn’t post), but
“romantic” is a rarity. The majority of what I’m listening to these
days is either Europop, 80’s pop, classic rock, a bit of Goth,
Vangelis or Simple Minds. Not a whole lot of that makes sense when
grouped together, especially with this latest CD release by Tuck &
Patti. The beauty of it is that it doesn’t have to make sense.
Okay, here’s the scoop. I’m editing a book
that has some romantic elements to it. In order to put myself in
the frame of mind I need to be in, music will sometimes help. Well,
“A Gift Of Love” is just what Dr. Editor ordered and, fortunately,
what the Love Doctor ordered for anybody who happens to be spending
a little quality time with that special someone. Sound enticing?

Featured tracks are “Up On The Roof,” “I Can’t
Help Falling In Love With You,” “Sukiyaki,” “Just The Way You Are,”
“Lovin’ You,” “I Was Born To Love You,” “Hold Me Tight And Don’t Let
Go,” “Song For You,” “Close To You” and “Time After Time.” Instead
of brash, bold, over-produced numbers, we’re treated to simple
vocals and an electric guitar, sometimes with accompaniment from a
keyboard and cello. This is, in essence, exactly what you want in
the CD player during a romantic dinner, bath or what have you;
something that speaks from the heart and not from the latest boy
band.
What really impressed me about this album,
besides the music, is the story behind it. Tuck and Patti were in
Japan and decided to put together a little project for their friends
and fans. It then grew into something they could release for
Valentine’s Day, only instead of deciding the songs themselves, they
opened it up to the fans and chose the most requested numbers based
on what the masses wanted. What could be more fan-friendly than
that?

interested listeners can check out their website at

of chilled sparkling grape juice, put on the charm and let the CD do
its magic. Sometimes different is just what the doctor ordered.
