We Review: Doing the
Right Thing -
Model's Rights and Responsibilities by Missy
Loewe
Written by: J.P
This book is not one of those tomes of long sentences, legal terms
and examples that date back 100 years. Nor is it a fluff piece that assumes your biggest
worry is "Should you bring bone-white or off-white shoes to a shoot?"
"Doing the Right Thing" explains, in easy-to-understand terms, what is a model's
legal rights with agents, photographers, and contracts. It even offers tax tips. The
author has been a model, has started an agency, and is an acomplished photographer. She
has many examples of what can happen. She offers advice on how to deal with photographer
no-shows, releases, judging a perspective agent and promotion on the internet.
Readers are spared the legalese that other books like this use to
over-explain a point. But it has a section on sample legalese a model will find in typical
contracts. This makes for easier learning. You pick up the main points in the book and
have a few sections for further refrences. Designed for the beginner model, it covers
topics like getting an agent, accepting jobs as an independent, how to protect yourself on
a shoot, and tips on how to check references. The basics are covered. Get things in
writing, don't touch a photograhers equipment, and what "glamour" photography
really means.
"Doing the Right Thing" is an overview of a model's rights and
responsibilities. It is designed to be a quick study. It has enough details to give a
model confidence in the job. It offers no short-cuts to fame, fortune, or experience. It
gives advice, examples, and words of caution. "Doing the Right Thing" is
available on-line at bn.com, fatbrain.com, a1books.com and amazon.com and is published by
Trendsetters Publishing, a division of Lone Wolf Enterprises.
