Diane Beall Templin - American Independent Party
Web Site: www.dianetemplin.com
A candidate for governor Diane Templin is running as an American
Independent Party candidate. (California has five official state
parties.)
M. Considering the number of candidates in the election,
do you believe this shows the need for election reform?
D. T. It is good to see people are concerned. There seems to be
about
30 candidates that have commercial or personal enhansement as their
goal for their candidacy. Most of the rest seem to be deeply concerned
about the troubling issues that face California and believe they have
answers that will heal California. There might be some reform needed,
but I would want to be very careful in undertaking it.
M. According to the Official voter Information Guide, you
agreed to the spending limit of $10.6 million. Would you
like to see mandatory spending limits on all state elections?
D.T. I would like to see the FCC require any station that gets a
license be required to give all candidates equal free air time.
I would like the FPPC be required to include all candidates that
wish to be included in any televised debate and rescind the
law that excludes debates from being included in the FPPC $21,200
spending limits.
I would like to see the post office give an amount of free
postage
to any candidate. and when that amount is used no more can be sent.
Yes I am in favor of spending limits. I am also in favor of the
publics
right to know.
M. Several cities and counties have banned fireworks due to
the fire and safety hazard. Would you be in favor of a
state-wide
fireworks ban?
D.T. No.
M. As an American Independent Party member, you would have to
deal with a the Democratic and Republican parties. How
would
you make friends in the legislature to get your reforms passed?
D.T. I have a very winning smile and I listen, learn, mediate,
consolidate,
endorse, oppose, repeal, veto, line-item veto, agree when I can and
make
hard choices when I must. I will enlist the best and the brightest to
formulate constitutional solutions. Although I am not one of the good
ol' boys, I get along with them well.
M. Several items on your platform can only be accomplished at the
federal level (abolishing the IRS for example). Are these
hints
of seeking higher office?
D.T. I would like to be the first female President.
M. At the state capitol, there is a display window for each county
and one for the governor. What would you want in the
governor's display?
D.T. The Constitutional oath under a pic of the governor.
M. Some candidates appear to have entered the race for publicity,
for
personal gain or just to make a point. Do you have a
message for these candidates?
D.T. I trust that the voters will make good decisions if they
are
unbiasedly informed. I also pray that the voters will have the wisdom
of
Solomon to make wise decisions and to see through those that only
want
personal
gain, publicity or just to make a point.
M. Cruz Bustamente will have full power should the governor leave
the
state or take a vacation. Do you see this as an obstacle in your
plan
for reform?
D.T. I don't plan to leave the state or take a vacation while there
are so many solutions to implement.
M. How do you believe is the best way for citizens to make their
concerns known to state government?
D.T. There needs to be hot lines for grievances.
M. Your statement in the Official Voter Information Guide starts with
a
blessing and makes a reference to the Old Testament. If
the recall fails, what should Grey Davis pray for?
D.T. Forgiveness!
